Notables is a way to keep key ideas saved for later that are connected to the codex entry or scene.

Notables

"You think of the priest while you are writing about the temple, and by the time you have finished the temple the priest is gone. Notables are a great way to store your half-baked ideas for later - when you choose to stick them in the proverbial oven."

— Quoth, the raven

01 The basics

What a notable is

A notable is a short note about a person, place, or thing. Each row holds a name and a one-line description. A Notables panel sits on every codex entry and on every scene.

Add a row when the idea arrives and keep writing. Turn any row into a full codex entry later, in one pass. Rows you never convert stay where they are and cost nothing.

Each entry you create this way appears in your World Codex and links back to the entry or scene it came from. Your world grows by one piece each time you plan a session or edit an entry.

02 Writing them

Adding notables

Open a codex entry for editing and scroll to Notables, below Full Description.

Click + Add notable to add an empty row.

Click Save on the codex entry to store the notables.

Two rows and their controls. The circle at the left of each row is empty until that row becomes a codex entry, and Create codex entry (1) counts the rows that have not.

03 Making them real

Turning notables into entries

Click Create codex entries in the Notables panel to open the review sheet.

Pick a codex entry type for each row from Choose a type…: Character, Location, Item, Faction, or History & Lore.

You just need to uncheck a row to leave it as a note.

Click the create button to create every checked row and save.

The application creates all of the checked rows together or none of them. A failure creates nothing.

The review sheet. Choose one of the five types for each checked row.

04 Who reads it

What your players see

Who can read this list? sits below the Notables panel on a codex entry.

Secret, GM side only hides the list from players and from the public, on every device, even when the entry itself is shared or public.

Visible, follows this entry's sharing shows the list to the players this entry is shared with. On a public entry, anyone with the link can read it.

Every new list starts secret. Change it one entry at a time.

Scene notables have no switch. Players never see them.

05 What changes

After you convert

A converted row keeps its name and description and stays in the list. Its circle fills with an icon for the codex type you chose. An unconverted row keeps an empty ring.

The new entry takes its name from the row, and its summary and description from the one line you wrote. It appears under Connected To in the parent entry's rail.

New entries are not shared with players. Share them the way you share any other entry.

Editing a row after you convert it changes the row only. The codex entry it produced is unchanged.

Delete a converted entry and its row returns to unconverted, with the name and description you wrote. The row is offered for conversion again.

After conversion the new entry appears under Connected To, with its type beside the name.

06 At the table

On a phone

The panel keeps every control it has on a laptop. The two fields stack, name above description, so both stay wide enough to read.

Tap + Add notable to add a row and tap the cross at the right of a row to remove it.

One row at a time

Open the entry you are already working on and add one notable. Convert it when you are ready, or leave it as a note.
