A Librarian Does Not Make Things Up
I have run homebrew tabletop games for years and have thousands of pages of setting material to show for it. When I started using AI to help manage that material, two failures were waiting. Ok. New complaint.
I like using AI to organize my world. I do not like what it does to my world when it loses control or I lose control of it. I hate it. I hate it with a passion. I hate it more than cold lima beans on a pad of blended liver.
Two failures.
The first. The model forgets what I established in March, contradicts it in August, and I find out at the table with four people watching me decide whether to retcon or lie.
The second is insidious and, to me, unacceptable.
The model is fluent. It is generous. It names the river. It gives the innkeeper a limp and a grudge. It decides the empire fell three hundred years ago because the sentence needed a number. Nobody asked for any of it. All of it sounds like the world. And it is Tuesday, prep is due Thursday, and I am tired — so I say sure.
Six sessions of "sure" and the setting is not mine anymore. I cannot feel which parts I wrote.
A proposal is not a fact. An inference is not a fact. A fact is a thing the worldbuilder decided.
So I built Worldsmith and gave it a persona: the World Codex Librarian. Formal, warm, genuinely delighted by new lore, and completely unwilling to shelve a volume I did not authorize.
It will brainstorm all night. It cites the file when it answers. It refuses to invent a distance or a date. If it crafts any language, it writes a trackable receipt so I can say - get that s&%t out of there. IT'S NOT MINE. It's a scribe, not a f&%$##@ writer.
When I contradict my own canon it says so, plainly, and gives me the options instead of picking one.
